Rare Fabrics Patchwork Quilt Throw (tx421)
A magnificent patchwork throw or small quilt made entirely of exceptionally rare and beautiful fabrics from the 1930s and 1940s. This stunning textile is reversible and has a vast array of varying fabrics which all date to approximately 80 years ago. There are so many different fabrics used that we could not show them all in detail - so there will be some surprises when you see them all! One side is made of fabrics in a mainly pink/raspberry theme and the other side has fabrics in a softer, more muted theme of autumnal shades in soft pinks, golds and yellows etc. Some of the fabrics appear to be dress fabrics, there are also some linens and cottons, along with a couple of eiderdown fabrics. It really is very difficult to describe the sheer beauty and variety but there are peonies, tulips, narcissi, cherries, birds, hibiscus, poppies and roses. It is edged with a natural coloured linen which is continued down the centre on the softer patterned side. The majority of the work is machine stitched and there is evidence of some overstitching where perhaps a patch has been replaced.
It measures approximately 39" by 58". The patches vary in size, and those on the softer patterned size are larger. The condition is superb with minor markings here and there. Some hand and basting stitches in evidence, some have been removed.
Fabrics such as these are almost impossible to find, so to see them together in this wonderful piece of textile is such a treat. The two different sides mean this is a very versatile item; use as a topper for a single bed, or place over a small sofa or daybed and add genuine vintage beauty to your decor.
