RETURN TO MAIN HELP MENU
Getting Started: Vintage Home uses a regular theme throughout. Many of the features present on the homepage can be found on other pages too, helping you to explore, search and purchase easily and quickly.

help image 1a   (1) Clicking on the main header texts, anywhere on the website, will always bring you back to the home page.
(2) The shopping trolley icon (shown throughout the website), when clicked, will display your current shopping basket.
(3) Use the drop-down menu to take you to any part of the shop or website instantly.
(4) Clicking on these large slideshow images will take you to the relevant section of the shop...
(5)... as will clicking on any of the four main image-buttons below.
(6) The mini search-bar is present on most pages - type in a keyword or two and press 'go'.

help image 1a   The drop-down menu and your personal shopping basket are available throughout the shop.

Certain entries on the drop-down menu may offer further choices/options - these are indicated by the presence of a small white arrow alongside certain items.

Your personal shopping basket contains an array of helpful features - help on this can be found in the 'making your purchase' section of the help files.

You can close your shopping basket using either the basket icon, the 'hide basket' button or the 'continue shopping' button.
Exploring the shop: The shop is divided into four main sections - these are: 'And so to Bed', 'Picture Gallery', 'Textiles' and 'Homewares'. The items in each section can be browsed, six-at-a-time, like the pages of a catalogue. The current shop section and page number are always displayed in large text to the right. The latter is also indicated by a green circle on the page index at the foot of the screen. Using a combination of the main drop down menu, the navigation 'paddles', the page index and the next/prev buttons - you can quckly and easily explore the shop.

help image 2a   (1) Item image and brief description.

(2) Details showing the current section and page number.

(3) Summary of the shop section.

(4) Coloured flags are used to show if the item is reserved or sold - none if the item is available.

(5) Page index and selector.

(6) Paddle: next page.

(7) Paddle: previous page.

help image 2b   TIP: If you move your cursor (or your finger on touch screens) over any of the six items on display (1), a brief summary of the item (comprising the title, product code and partial description) will appear in the right hand green column on the page (2).

This NEW feature helps to further review items without having to open individual item pages.

Here you can also plainly see the section name and page number displayed top right and the same page number clearly indicated on the page index at the foot of the screen.

TIP: You can click on any number on the page index to jump straight to that page.
Viewing individual items: The item page is where all the details for an individual item are displayed - it can be reached by choosing an item from any shop page (or 'page-of-six' as it's affectionately known) or from the search page results or perhaps directly from an external source such as a search result on Google, Pinterest or a Vintage blog somewhere...

(2) The BUY NOW button will automatically place the current item into your shopping basket.

(3) The email will be launched PRE-FILLED with our email address and the item information.

(4) The currency guide will show the price of the item in several major currencies. NOTE: this is meant as a guide only - the actual invoiced price may vary.
Making your purchase: The new ordering system on Vintage Home has been designed to be simple yet powerful. For the first time it includes a custom shopping basket that has lots of features that you'll love as you browse the shop. With a single click you can add items, remove items, revisit items, adjust the quantities, apply any discounts, keep a running total at your fingertips and then, when you're ready - place your order ...

help image 4a   (1) The green bar at the top of the screen shows how many items are currently in your basket - even when it's closed.

(2) You can close the basket at any time using this button - or clicking the big round trolley icon - or clicking on the continue shopping button.

(3) The main 'body' of the basket is used to show any items currently in it - or any one of a number of notices to assist you with your purchase.

(4) You can always continue shopping - whether or not there are any items currently in your basket.

help image 4b   When you click on the [BUY NOW!] button on any item page - your basket will drop down and the item will be added to it. At this point the basket will show:

(1) The number of items currently in your basket.
(2) Details of the item.
(3) The price of the item.
(4) If there is only one item in your basket - the option to purchase by 'Express Checkout' is shown. (see below for details)
(5) The order sub-total is displayed (less P&P)
(6) You can also choose to continue shopping or...
(7) ...Submit an order (this is for those who are either NOT a UK resident, OR purchasing multiple items OR paying by other means.

PLEASE NOTE: The Express Checkout option is currently only available for the purchase of single items by UK residents who are paying by debit/credit card. It is our intention that this service will be extended to multiple items and overseas customers in future. However, for the time being such orders require us to carefully check the weight and size of the package(s) against all the available postage options to provide you with the best delivery solution...something that we must do manually.

help image 4c   If you're a UK resident purchasing a single item, paying by debit/credit card and choose Express Checkout, you'll see this screen:

(1) The description of the item together with its product code plus the total price of the item inc. UK post and packing.

(2) Whilst we use Paypal to process your payment - YOU DO NOT NEED A PAYPAL ACCOUNT TO COMPLETE YOUR PURCHASE - you can simply pay as a 'guest' at the PayPal site.

(3) Paypal's message option can be hard to find...so you can click here to attach a message to your order.

(4) When you're ready to proceed - click the green bar!

You can add multiple items to your basket. Each is represented by an image, accompanied by a description and product code (there is also a 'remove' option). Items placed in your basket (but not purchased) will remain there for three days, after which time they will be removed. IMPORTANT: Items placed in your basket are not marked as 'sold' or 'reserved' until either you complete Express-Checkout, or you place your order. There is always the possibility that an item may be purchased by another shopper in the meantime. To avoid disappointment always proceed to checkout (or place your order) at your earliest convenience.

help image 4d   (1) Click on an items image, description or product code to re-visit that item in the shop.

(2) If more than one of an item is available, then a 'qty' box is shown.

(3) Use the up & down arrows to show the number of items/units required (updates the line price).

(4) The Sub-Total (excl. P&P).

(5) If a discount/promotional code has been issued - enter it here and then press 'Apply Discount'.

(6) Where applicable, discounts will be deducted from the Sub-Total to show the price you pay (excl.P&P). Remember - a discount code may not relate to every item in the basket.

help image 4e   To purchase items other than via Express-Checkout click on the 'Place Your Order' button at the foot of your basket. This will open our conventional order form - comprising of three main elements:

(1) The title bar confirms the number of items being ordered together with their total price (excl. P&P)

(2) The main body of the order form requires you to complete all the boxes - though the 'message' box and the 'how did you find us' box are both optional.

(3) This part of the order form is known as the 'auto-fill' section and, depending on your choice, can pre-fill your future orders with the information you've provided.

help image 4f   The order form has a verification feature that will check to see that all required boxes have been completed - if not (or if non-matching email addresses have been entered) then a red box bounded by a dotted red line will highlight those boxes that require your attention - simply correct these and re-submit your order.

(1) A completed box.

(2) An empty box or one containing an error.

(3) The 'message' box and the 'how did you find us' box are both optional.

(4) When everything is complete - submit you order!
Search Tips: Our search facility means you can now look through the entire shop to find items that best suit your wants and needs. Not only those items available for sale - but everything we've recently sold too! Unlike other online stores - our sold items continue to show the price at which they sold, their full description and all of the photographs too. Vintage Home holds thousands of such records, providing a FREE and unique reference library that is accessed daily by the media, the trade and vintage lovers from around the globe.

help image 5a   (1) The search page can be accessed from the main menu.

(2) By default, the search page shows 30 of the latest stock items.

(3) Search results include the item title, product code and a brief description...

(4) ...together with an image.

(2) The number of items that match your search are shown here.
(3) Search will try to match your request against all stock that is available for sale - beginning with titles and product codes, it then checks all descriptions and finally specifications.

help image 5c

(6) A yellow 'reserved' or red 'sold' flash to indicate an items status.

help image 5d   If you clicked on a search result and viewed the item - you have two options of where to go after that...
(1) EITHER: Click 'return to previous page' to go back to the search page where your last search results will be re-displayed.
(2) OR: Click on the left 'paddle' to go back to where this item can be found in the shop.
NOTE: if the item you viewed is no longer on display in the shop (e.g. if you clicked on a 'sold' item in the search results that only exists in our records and NOT currently in the shop), you'll be taken to the first page in the section of the shop where that item once resided - i.e. if the item in question was a painting, then you'll be taken to page 1 of 'The Picture Gallery' where you'll find other paintings...

help image 5e   In addition to the search page - you'll find a mini search-bar (1) on most pages of the website.

Simply type a word or two therein and click 'go'!

You'll then be taken to the search page where the results of your search will be displayed.
