Four Seasons Embroidery Bedspread (astb467)

Possibly the most exceptional example of hand embroidery we have seen! This is a large bedspread from the 1930s, made from the most beautiful green linen with hand crocheted cotton border and shaped trim, which incorporates a floral design. But it is the nine hand embroidered scenes which make this unique bedspread an exquisite work of art (many more photos available upon request!) Each embroidery is set within the crocheted border and they represent the four seasons. Spring is depicted by the daffodils, crocuses, snowdrops, violets and catkins. Summer is represented by the foxgloves, roses, pansies and hollyhocks. Autumn colour is beautifully displayed in the dahlias, asters and chrysanthemums, and winter is a splendid array of hips, berries, acorns and chestnuts. All of this fine embroidery is handworked; seeing it in real life is an incredible treat!

An exceptional, unique and stunning antique textile. The bedspread is approximately 80" wide by 80" long with the crochet trim adding just under 4" all round. It is in excellent condition, no fading or wear.
