Art Nouveau Liberty Fabric Antique Quilt (astb490)

This is an antique, hand stitched North Country (or Durham) whole cloth quilt dating to circa 1910 - 1920 made from a Liberty fabric of the era. Exclusive to the Vintage Home shop and specially sourced from a private collector, this is one of the most beautiful antique quilts we have seen. It is reversible with a plain and a patterned side. The soft terracotta pink of the plain side shows the wonderful, expert handstitched design which incorporates chains of interlinking whorls as the border with petals and leaves for the main body of the quilt. The decorative face of the quilt is a rare and stunning Liberty fabric. The beautiful cherry-raspberry red background is adorned with pink poppies (or chrysanthemums) and stylised blossom trees in pretty pinks, greens, blues, white and cream. The quilt is in excellent condition and both sides have the original glaze, although it is more evident on the patterned side. This may mean it has rarely been used.

A magnificent and rare antique quilt for the collector. The quilt is approximately 84" by 96". Condition is excellent and colours are unfaded. The plain coloured reverse has some light markings due to storage where it has been folded but these are not present on the main decorative side. The quilt is all handstitched apart from the outer edges and where the fabric is joined vertically, these parts are machine stitched.
