Art Nouveau Floral Birds Welsh Quilt (astb499)

A really pretty antique Welsh quilt dating to approximately 1905. This is a hand-stitched quilt made from two fabrics with a patterned side and a plain side. The soft, pale green of the plain side shows the handstitched design beautifully. The patterned side is one of the prettiest designs we have seen; a pale green background with an Art Nouveau design of pink stylised floral birds, with light blue poppies and chrysanthemums and yellow tipped thistles. This is not as heavy as many Welsh quilts as it apears to be made of the two fabrics stitched together without a wool batting infill.

A truly superb example of an antique Welsh quilt. The quilt is approximately 71" by 87". In very good condition with storage markings/fold markings to rear and some dusty markings at edges - a laundering would freshen the quilt nicely and any surface dullness/dustiness would be removed.
