Handstitched Hydrangea Welsh Quilt (astb132)

This is a stunning Welsh quilt dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890 - 1900. It is in exceptional condition and will more than fit a modern-day double bed.

This quilt is hand-stitched with the main side displaying a breathtakingly beautiful pattern of trailing hydrangeas, whilst the rich golden yellow reverse, shows-off the exquisite patterns and detail of the handstitching, including a central circle and hearts.

The colours and detail in the florals and foliage are undoubtedly an example of a high quality fabric of its time; deep rose-pinks, bluey-mauves and a gorgeous turquoise!

The quilt measures approximately 80" by 86". The condition is super; clean, unfaded and clearly little or indeed, totally unused. The occasional, minor evidence of the turquoise having bled gently through to the reverse - quite minor but mentioned for thoroughness. Small part of the plain edge has some surface mark, due to storage most likely.

Quilts such as this were very much a labour of love and often made by family members as a wedding present. This quilt was probably safely put away and rarely - if ever - used. What a wonderful addition to a quilt collection or the crowning glory to your vintage bed!
