1920s Welsh Patchwork Quilt (astb483)

A superb antique Welsh patchwork quilt. The quilt is entirely handstitched and made from a variety of beautiful fabrics which date from 1900 to the 1920s. The many and varied fabrics are mainly cottons and some textured weave cotton mixes. The designs are absolutely wonderful and include large and small florals, deco abstracts with some plains. Both sides are different with one side made from square, rectangular and strip patches of fabrics and the other side made from some larger panels, strips and rectangular patches of Victorian fabrics, so some date to the late 19th century. The colours are wonderful! For the most part they are slightly muted but in exquisite shades, reminiscent of nougat colours. They work really well together and the over all appearance is a gentle, soft and pretty quilt on one side, and a gentle, pretty, yet a little more striking in appearance, on the other. The handstitched design incorporates curved lines and shapes. The quilt appears to have a heavy wool batting inner.

A very special antique quilt for the discerning collector. More photos available upon request. The quilt is approximately 74" by 84". It has been dry cleaned. The side with the larger panels of fabric has some light, age discolouration marks in places and at edges, and some wear at one edge mainly. The side with the smaller patches has some minor discolouration at edges. There appears to be no wear on the main areas of the quilt and it is in excellent condition for its age. The many and varied, beautiful fabrics in the quilt will not disappoint.
