Edwardian Birds and Roses Welsh Quilt (astb492)

A really beautiful antique quilt dating to circa 1910. This is a handstitched Welsh quilt in superb condition. The quilt is made from a patterned cotton on one side and a plain cotton on the other side. The decorative side is a very pretty design of pink roses and birds of paradise with dainty blue forget-me-nots and soft green foliage, set against a white background. This is one of those very delicate, feminine designs which were popular in the day. The reverse plain side is the most delightful shade of pale peppermint green; truly lovely. The handstitching is best seen on this plain side and incorporates petals, swirls, ferns and loops in a pink thread. The edge is handstitched all the way round.

An exceptional antique quilt for the discerning collector. The quilt is approximately 67" by 86". The condition is superb. The patterned side has no marks, fading or wear. The plain side has some lighter coloured areas which may be due to storage folds or perhaps being displayed plain side up. There is one very, very tiny wear hole at a corner on the plain side - really quite insignificant given the age and overall condition of this quilt.
