1920s Rose and Fruit Tree Barbola Pot (hw1186)

This is a really beautiful and very rare design boudoir pot. It dates to the 1920s, possibly earlier because of the art nouveau style of the decoration. This is a papier mache lid and pot with an antique gold painted finish, adorned with handcrafted dainty rose or fruits barbola work upon flowing, graceful trees which wrap around the body of the pot. The lid has a circle of barbola floral/fruit with leaves, and topped with a knob made from barbola also. The top of the lid has small gaps so this may have been intended for use as a pot pourri holder, although its design denotes it was a powder holder.

One of the more unusual barbola designs we have seen, it will grace any vintage dressing table and prove extremely handy for storing a variety of vanity items. The pot is approximately 10.5cm high and 10cm across. In excellent condition for its considerable age - some cracking to painted finish of pot and barbola work. There doesn't appear to be any missing fruits/flowers. There is perhaps the tip of a leaf or two missing, but this is not obvious
