Victorian British Birds Photo Album (hw1211)

A beautiful example of a rare and exceptional Victorian photo album, filled with 12 full colour original chromoliths of British birds depicted throughout the seasons of the year. Each colour mount shows the birds in their natural habitat and takes us from January to December, through winter to spring, summer to autumn and to winter again. Each glorious mount shows the flora of the changing seasons and cycle of the birds, from eggs and young in the nest to the fledglings learning to fly. Each pictorial mount is alternated by a plain mount with gold edging and surround making a total of 24 mounts. The album is leather bound with decorative embossing and metal clasp. The album is in excellent condition. Some rubbing to leather, mainly at corners. Some foxing mainly to the plain mounts although the insertion of photos will hide some of this. The colour frontispiece is completely unspoilt by a handwritten dedication. A few of the mounts have minor splits and tabs as repairs. One small, faint inked title on one of the plain mounts and some very faint pencil marks left from being erased.
