19th Century French Hand Painted Mirror (hw1335)

A very beautiful and rare mirror dating to the late 1800s. This is a large, free-standing mirror designed to stand on top of a dressing table or chest of drawers. The mirror is encased in a wooden frame with a delicate grey-green painted finish and adorned with fine, hand painted decoration depicting a young lady being serenaded by a young man in a pastoral setting. The two bottom corners are decorated with a bird cage and lyre, with the top showing a basket, with lavender fusettes and foliage featuring in each display. The mirror stands on a wooden easel and the back casing and stand are also painted a delicate shade of green.

A rare and delightful French antique mirror for the romantic inspired interior. The mirror is approximately 21" wide and 14" high. In very good condition for its age. Age-related wear/markings to painted finish. The easel stand at the rear is fixed with a strap of silk at the base and this is partly torn.
