1920s Berries and Fruit Barbola Frame (hw1354)

A magnificent and rare example of early barbola work, in the form of a photo or picture frame. This is a large wooden frame with an easel stand. The barbola decoration has been hand crafted and hand painted to form an impressive crest atop the frame and consists of strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, plums, apples and pears, along with various foliage and a pretty pale blue bow. There is pale blue-grey ribboning to the borders and a decorative, subtle gold painted edge. The frame has its original wood backing with clips and hand made glass.

Perfect for displaying a treasured photograph or painting - and a beautiful display piece in its own right. The frame is approximately 11.5" by 16" high (29.5cm wide by 41cm high.) The frame will take a picture size of 10" by 12" (25.5cm by 30.5cm.) It has age-related wear as seen. A small piece of the gold gesso is missing at the bottom lefth hand corner. (The old canvas print shown in the photos is included but can be replaced with an image of your choice.)
