Rare Barbola Flower Basket Bookends (hw1355)

This is a very rare pair of barbola bookends. They date to the 1930s and are made from gesso and plaster, with superb hand painted barbola decoration in the form of overflowing baskets of roses, daisies, forget-me-nots, crocuses and berries - and more! The woven basket and stand are painted in a soft antique gold, with the base having a stippled effect. The underside of each bookend has its original green baize covering to protect delicate surfaces.

A stunning pair of antique book ends which will look beautiful holding a collection of fine books. Each book end is approximately 15.5cm high and 16cm at the widest. Minimal wear to flowers/painted finish. One of the book ends has a slightly softer patina to the flowers and the base has a repair to an old break. This is fairly well done and blends well.
