Edwardian Basket of Roses Oil Painting (pg677)

A superb antique painting set into its original frame. This is an oil painting on canvas and depicts an overturned basket displaying a spray of beautiful red roses. The painting is signed by the artist H Huggins and dated 1909. The painting is after Catherine Klein, the Victorian artist who painted flowers, in particular roses, and this very image was reproduced on prints and postcards during the early years of the 20th century. The wooden frame has an antique gold painted finish.

A magnificently pretty painting for your floral inspired home. The frame is approximately 23" by 15". The painting has been lightly cleaned and would most likely brighten even more with further cleaning if desired. The frame has minor age-related wear. There are a few pinholes and a couple of small tears (these are old tears which have been covered at the back by tape) one of the tears is visible from the front (one repair over a red rose has been repainted over, see photos.) Pinholes are only evident when held to the light. At 105 years old this beautiful antique painting is a delight, and could be restored to perfection if necessary.
