19thC Crinoline Lady and Soldier Painting (pg722)

This is a superb, highly detailed original watercolour painted in 1952. It depicts a charming garden scene with a lady in typical Victorian crinoline dress holding a rose basket, with her soldier 'beau' in full uniform. The detail is really wonderful, from the lace in her dress to the delightful goldfish and bluebirds. It is painted onto card which is fixed to a backing card and was originally framed. The painting bears the artist's initials S.E.S. and is dated 1952. Research has led us to information on the artist as an illustrator of advertising, packaging, magazines and publications from the 1930s to the 1950s and this painting may well be one of the originals used for such purposes.

The painted area is approximately 7.5" by 5.5" and the card it is attached to (part of the old packaging for stockings!) is 8.75" by 7". The painting is in very good condition with some markings at the edges wher it was once framed and a small sliver of paper missing to the top righthand centre. It could be carefully removed from its backing card or simply cut to size/remounted for framing.
