1920s November Roses Oil Painting (pg746)

This is a really beautiful and expertly painted example of a talented artist's work. It is an oil painting on canvas set into its original, highly decorative gesso and wood frame which dates from the same or earlier Victorian era. The painting is titled November Roses and was painted by Nora H Cullen, an impressionist artist who produced several floral works from the 1920s through to the 1940s, and whose work occasionally comes up at prestigious auction houses. This painting is a perfect representation of late season roses in delicate colours, displayed in a pale blue glass vase. The painting is signed to the lower righthand side.

The subtleness of the petals and delicacy of the light in this painting clearly shows this to be the work of a highly talented artist. The intricate and impressive frame serves to highlight the beauty of the work. Labels to the reverse give details of the West Country artist's name and address in Somerset, England and original price in the 1920s of over 18 pounds. The frame is approximately 16" wide by 17.5" high and the painting is approximately 10" wide by 12" high. The painting is in perfect condition, being set behind glass. The frame has some cracks and small parts of gesso missing (most notably some from the top lefthand corner.)
