1920s Religious Hand Painted Embroidery (pg772)

This is an incredible piece of work. It is a part hand painted in oils and part hand embroidered image of Jesus Christ and children. The artist was a young woman, who gifted it to St. Alrewas Church, Staffordshire in 1921. It is evident from the first glance that the artist was truly talented. The detail in the painted faces and hands is superb and the neatness and vibrancy of the handstitched silken thread of the gown and clothes is equally as excellent; when the light catches the silken thread it shines with an incredible vibrancy. It has been worked onto canvas with the upper background of the sky being painted and the lower part of grass and flowers being embroidered. The figures come alive by the artist's talented hands and the whole is a most splendid image. It is set into its original, oak frame (with hand made glass which was removed for the photo to show the full detail.) There is a handwritten label on the reverse with details of the artist etc.

Artworks such as this are rare and with its special association, it would make a wonderful gift for a friend or loved one. The frame is approximately 40cm wide by 68cm high. In exceptionally good condition for its age, most likely protected from sunlight over the decades. The frame has some minor scuffs etc. The backing paper was torn in places so framer's tape has been applied to re-seal the back.
