Margaret Fisher Prout Roses Oil Painting (pg774)

This is a beautiful and original oil painting by the listed artist Margaret Fisher Prout - born 1875 and died 1963, she was a British still life, landscape and figural artist who painted in the impressionist style. This large painting dates to the 1930s and depicts pretty roses in a blue and white vase upon a table. The painting is signed in her usual manner. It is set into a large gold painted gesso over wood frame with inset border. There is a floral painting verso which is partly coverd by tape - it is presumed to be the artist's work also.

(Millicent - her first name) Margaret Fisher Prout's work is held by the Tate and she exhibited at several Royal Academies as well as being a member of the Royal Academy and Society of Women Artists. She also taught life drawing at Hammersmith School of Arts and Crafts. Her work occasionally comes up at main auction houses such as Christies and often commands upwards of four figures. The frame is approximately 23" by 27.5". There is some damage to the gesso on frame at bottom corner/edge.
