1856 Victorian Woolwork Sampler (pg787)

A beautiful antique sampler dated 1856. This colourful woolwork embroidery was completed by Jane Carrick and along with the sampler text, there is a wonderful array of beautifully sewn, colourful images, including a dog, lamb, cockerel and duck. Central to the sampler is a character and tree. The sampler has a decorative floral themed border. It is set into a quality veneered frame with a cream mount. The reverse of the frame bears the label of the fine art dealers E Stacy Marks Ltd., indicating it was re-framed in the 1950s.

A superb example of a rare and unique Victorian sampler over 160 years old. The frame is approximately 40cm wide by 50.5cm high. Some wear to frame veneer as seen. Slight discolouration to mount in places. The canvas has some darkening/marking due to age, more prominent on the left hand side (camera has slightly enhanced this) but there is no wear or fading so we class the condition as excellent.
