Stunning 1930s Ballgown Cover (tx1142)

This is a rare and beautiful item from the 1930s. It is a satin ballgown cover made by the Jekmoth company. This luxurious item was originally purchased from Harrods for the sum of 95 shillings which equates to nearly 200 pounds in today's money! It would have been used to cover the very expensive designer ballgown or dinner dress of a socialite or extremely well-to-do lady. The cover is made from a heavy, quality satin with a gorgeous design of pink and yellow roses against a purple-blue background. It has a metal zip closure and is stiffened at the top, with a collapsible hanger. Inside, the cover is lined with a stiffened paper-linen material. The cover is quite long and very wide, to accommodate the layers of the dress. It has its original Jekmoth label and a small Harrods price label is also attached. We were particularly taken with the instructions, including the reference to tinsel trimmed apparel!

Quite the most glorious vintage clothes cover we have ever seen! The cover is approximately 55" long and 35" wide. It is in pretty good condition for its considerable age (nearly 90 years!) Some light fading to the flat top and narrowly at the sides. Very near the bottom, there are two tiny holes, some marks/watermarking and some lightening of colour. Inside, the condition is very good.
