1930s Bernard Wardle French Garden Fabric (tx473)

We are thrilled to offer this beautiful and rare, unused fabric. It was made by Bernard Wardle and is one of their early and very, very pretty designs. It is called 'French Garden' and is a tightly woven cotton. The palette of colours and style used in this design are typical of the era and depicts architectural features such as a birdbath, pagoda, statue, follies and a stone staircase set amidst flowers, trees and a pond. The pretty, delicate blue background is the perfect backdrop for the varied colours and detail, and the flowers are wonderful; bearded irises, rhododendrons and water lilies to name a few.

Vintage fabrics of this calibre are extremely rare, particularly in such long lengths. This is perfect for curtains, cushions and bags.

Measurements: Approximately 77cm (30.5") wide including selvedge by 1 metre long. There are currently 2 metres available and this fabric is sold by the metre - please enter your requirements in the box when purchasing - if ordering more than a metre the fabric will be sent as a continuous length. The condition is excellent, some storage marks to the selvedge. The Bernard Wardle name and bee logo is printed along the selvedge and the fabric retains its original label with the design name, which is believed to date to 1935.
