Superb 19th Century French Cretonne (tx810)

This is a very rare piece of antique French fabric. It is a cotton fabric with a soft tactile weave and is called a cretonne. It dates to 1880-1890 so can be classed as an antique fabric. This stunning design depicts sprays of roses, blossom and small tree peonies amidst branches of firs against a black background so the effect is quite breathtaking. Although this is a reclaimed piece of fabric (it has a stitched edge) the colours are superb and it would make a wonderful curtain for a door - perhaps edged with a co-ordinating fabric and some complementary antique passementerie in red or gold.

A beautiful fabric for all manner of crafts or soft furnishings. The fabric is approximately 33" wide by 69" long. In very good condition with no fading, we noted a couple of very small holes at each edge - quite small and not noticeable, fabric feels strong elsewhere.
