1930s Art Deco Parrot Plushwork Panel (tx967)

This is an incredibly beautiful example of plushwork embroidery. It is hard to quantify the work that has gone into this piece and the detail and 3-dimensional appeal is quite superb. The plushwork depicts a colourful parrot on his swing, amidst a floral and foliate setting. The plushwork has been worked within an embroidered border and then applied to a burgundy red velvet, so the three dimensional appearance is wonderfully enhanced. The velvet panel is edged with a double handstitched crocheted border in a soft green and gentle mocha. But the eye is drawn to the spectacular plushwork, one of the most striking examples we have seen. The finishing touch of this beauty has to be the parrot's glass eye; such detail!

This exemplary example of plushwork will certainly not disappoint and will display perfectly if mounted within a frame or made into an impressive cushion. The panel is approximately 24" by 20". In excellent condition, no fading or wear. A couple of minor spot marks to the reverse of the velvet.
